Needing a base for newly purchased TV, I decided to build one.
I also wanted to improve the audio from the TV and provide tape and DVD storage.
TV base before grill cloth is installed and showing the Altec 755, 8" speakers installed in the doors. I installed switching phone jacks on the rear of the TV, connected to the internal speaker leads, so that when I plug in the phone plug connected to the 755s, the internal speakers are disconnected and the signal from the TV's internal amp feeds the 755s.
Rear view of a 755, showing tape and DVD storage area.
The 755s are efficient and were made for speech intelligibility,
so they work nicely as TV speakers.
View of the front of the main system, showing the TV
base, Aria 5s sitting on 1259 subwoofers, center channel speaker
on the TV and equipment cabinets.
All woodwork and cabinets are home made, as are numerous
electronic modifications.
As a bonus, a view of my bedroom TV system.
A 27" TV sitting on a pair of 100 Hz Edgar horns powered by Altec 414, 12" woofers, and flanked by a pair of Edgar mid-horns powered by Altec 755s, and atop them, a pair of Altec 3000H tweeters.
Bonus # 2, A pair of my rear speakers used in the main system.
Drivers are: Focal 7K415 and TC90Tdx
Bonus # 3
Equipment cabinet made for a friend
